Legal Services Corporation Office of Inspector General Semiannual Report to the Congress October 1, 2017 – March 31, 2018
Our Semiannual Report to Congress presents a snapshot of the work we did to fulfill our mission for the six-month period ending March 31, 2018. Our dynamic report format provides readers with easy access to facts and information, as well as succinct summaries of the work by area. The Office of Inspector General is pleased to issue its Semiannual Report to Congress for the six month period ending March 31, 2018. This report highlights and summarizes significant audit, inspection, and investigative results during this reporting period that have strengthened programs and operations of the Commission.
During this period, we issued 16 audits and other reports that contained recommendations to improve Department programs and operations. In addition, we closed 39 investigations involving fraud or corruption, securing more than $18.5 million in restitution, settlements, fines, recoveries, forfeitures, and savings. As a result of this work, criminal actions were taken against a number of people, including current and former school officials and service providers who cheated students and taxpayers
