(U) Rec. 1.d: The DoD OIG recommended that the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment provide guidance to the Secretaries of the Military Departments and the Directors of the Defense agencies to develop and implement procedures to verify compliance with the Defense Transportation Regulations and the Presidential Drawdown Execute Orders for the shipment of defense items. Specifically, the Under Secretary of Defense of Acquisition and Sustainment should prepare a memorandum to the Secretaries of the Military Departments and the Directors of the Defense agencies that clarifies the requirements to and importance of verifying that their personnel coordinate with U.S. Transportation Command points of contact to resolve any questions on Defense Transportation Regulations requirements and to assist the delivery of the items to the aerial port of embarkation.
