CHARLESTON, W.Va. – United States Attorney Will Thompson honored an array of federal, state and local law enforcement professionals today for their outstanding contributions to investigations and cases in the Southern District of West Virginia.

During a ceremony at the Robert C. Byrd U.S. Courthouse in Charleston, Thompson presented 2022 Law Enforcement Awards to more than 60 individuals.

Bergen County Man Charged for Participating in Multimillion-Dollar Counterfeit Trafficking Conspiracy

NEWARK, N.J. – A Bergen County, New Jersey, man was arrested today on charges of participating in a multimillion-dollar conspiracy to traffic counterfeit computer networking devices, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced.

Musa Karaman, 35, of North Arlington, New Jersey, is charged by complaint with one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. He appeared by videoconference today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy L. Waldor in Newark federal court and was released on $300,000 unsecured bond.

Government Contractor Agrees to Pay $425,000 for Alleged False Claims Related to Conflicts of Interest

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Cape Henry Associates (Cape Henry), located in Virginia Beach, has agreed to pay $425,000 to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by failing to inform contracting officers of the company’s organizational conflicts of interest in connection with the award and performance of task orders on government contracts.

Baltimore Business Owner Pleads Guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud in Relation to the Sale of Two Baltimore Properties

Baltimore, Maryland – Philip Abramowitz, age 50, of Pikesville, Maryland, pleaded guilty yesterday to conspiracy to commit wire fraud.  As part of his guilty plea, Abramowitz will be ordered to pay $373,684 in restitution.

The guilty plea was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Erek L. Barron and Special Agent in Charge Shawn A. Rice of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Office of Inspector General.

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – United States Attorney Duane A. Evans and Jonathan Kanter, Assistant Attorney General for the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice, announced that JOHNNY C. GUILLORY, SR., age 72, of Opelousas, Louisiana, was found guilty as charged on May 18, 2022 following a three-day jury trial before the Honorable Mary Ann Vial Lemmon.

Leicester Woman Pleads Guilty to Role in COVID-19 Pandemic Fraud Scheme

BOSTON – A Leicester woman has pleaded guilty to her involvement in a pandemic unemployment fraud scheme.

Destinee Snay, 20, pleaded guilty on May 16, 2022 in federal court in Worcester to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. U.S. District Court Judge Timothy S. Hillman scheduled sentencing for Oct. 12, 2022. Snay was indicted in July 2021 along with co-defendant William Cordor.
