Sarasota Man Sentenced To 23 Years In Federal Prison For Running $80 Million “Oasis” FOREX Ponzi Scheme

Tampa, Florida – U.S. District Judge William F. Jung has sentenced Michael J. DaCorta (57, Sarasota) to 23 years in federal prison for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and mail fraud, money laundering, and filing a false income tax return. As part of his sentence, the court also entered an order of forfeiture in the amount of $2,817,876.16, a portion of the proceeds of the charged criminal conduct. A federal jury had found DaCorta guilty on May 4, 2020.

Miami Federal Prison Nurse Charged with Smuggling Drug-Laced Documents to Inmates

MIAMI -- Ruben Montanez-Mirabal, 32, has made his first appearance in federal court to face charges that he accepted bribes in exchange for smuggling contraband, including illegal drugs, into the Federal Detention Center in Miami (FDC-Miami) and delivering it to inmates.  Montanez-Mirabal is a licensed registered nurse who has worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons at FDC-Miami since February 2020.
