The OIG recommends that OPM annually track and analyze returned Form 1099Rs for the prior tax year. Performing this exercise provides OPM with the opportunity to identify deceased annuitants whose death has not been reported; continue to update the active annuity roll records with current address information; and to correct other personal identifying information. In addition, the returned Form 1099Rs should be matched against the SSA Death Master File annually.
