National Reconnaissance Office

The National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) is in charge of designing, building, launching, and operating America's intelligence satellites. From its inception in 1961, it has worked to provide the best reconnaissance support to the Intelligence Community (IC) and the Department of Defense (DoD).

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) contributes to the NRO mission by providing independent oversight of the NRO programs and activities through audits, inspections, investigations, and special projects. It also evaluates compliance with laws and regulations and recommends improvements to assist management in making decisions that foster integrity throughout the organization, and maintains a hotline for reporting confidential information on potential fraud and abuse. The OIG may also offer analyses and advice on critical government-wide initiatives, or provide technical or consultative advice as the agency develops new plans.
