Catherine Verdon Sentenced On False Statements Charge

The United States Attorney for the District of Vermont announced that Catherine Verdon, 46, of Middletown Springs, was sentenced today in United States District Court in Rutland following her guilty plea to an indictment charging her with making false statements to obtain federal and state program benefit payments.  Chief U.S. District Judge Geoffrey Crawford ordered that Verdon serve two years of probation and pay $95,000 in restitution to the State of Vermont and the U.S. Social Security Administration.  

Ex-Federal Correctional Officer Sentenced to 15 Months in Prison for Taking Over $15,000 in Bribes and Smuggling Contraband for Inmates

          LOS ANGELES – A former Bureau of Prisons (BOP) correctional officer at the Federal Correctional Complex, Victorville was sentenced today to 15 months in federal prison for accepting more than $15,000 in cash bribes in exchange for smuggling contraband – including methamphetamine and cell phones – into the complex’s high-security penitentiary.

Evansville – Acting United States Attorney John Childress announced today that Stephanie TenBarge, 73, of Evansville, Indiana, was sentenced to two years’ probation by U.S. District Judge Richard Young. TenBarge previously worked as the Executive Director at Echo Housing Corporation, where she embezzled more than $102,000 of funds over a three-year period from the organization which received federal, state, and local tax dollars.

Orlando, Florida – U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton Jr. has sentenced Steven L. Rembert (48, Orange County) to three years in federal prison, to be followed by 3 years supervised release for filing a materially false statement in an application to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for disaster relief benefits.     

Rembert had pleaded guilty on December on December 21, 2020.   

Washington State tech executive pleads guilty to wire fraud and money laundering in connection with PPP loans

Seattle – A Washington tech executive pleaded guilty today to wire fraud and money laundering in connection with his scheme to obtain over $5.5 million in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans and laundering the proceeds, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Tessa M. Gorman for the Western District of Washington.

Mukund Mohan, 48, of Clyde Hill, Washington, was charged in July 2020.  He is scheduled for sentencing in front of U.S. District Judge John C. Coughenour on July 20, 2021.

Former correctional employee admits to sexual contact with inmate

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – Heather D. Obrad, a correctional employee at Federal Corrections Institution Hazelton, has admitted to having inappropriate contact with an inmate, Acting United States Attorney Randolph J. Bernard announced.

Obrad, of Granville, West Virginia, pleaded guilty today to one count of “Abusive Sexual Contact.” Obrad, 27, a secretary at FCI Hazelton, admitted to having sexual contact with an inmate at the facility from August to October 2020.
