Vanessa Roberts Avery, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, and Ketty Larco-Ward, Inspector in Charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Boston Division, today announced that a federal grand jury in New Haven returned an indictment yesterday charging BIMAEL ACEVEDO-ROMAN, 28, of Meriden, with one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine.

Baltimore, Maryland – Yesterday U.S. District Judge George J. Hazel sentenced Janet Sturmer, age 66, of Manassas, Virginia to 54 months in federal prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, for conspiracy to commit mail, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft.  As part of her guilty plea, Sturmer will be required to pay $4.4 million in restitution.

Caris Life Sciences, Inc. (Caris) has agreed to pay $2,886,674.86 to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act in an alleged nationwide scheme to improperly bill Medicare for laboratory tests known as “Caris Molecular Intelligence” and the “ADAPT Biotargeting System.”

A man who defrauded an investor and two banks out of at least $8.4 million was sentenced Wednesday in federal court, announced U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson. Chief U.S. District Judge John F. Heil III sentenced William Brian Mulder, 64, of Tulsa to 84 months in federal prison followed by 3 years of supervised release. He was further ordered to pay to pay $4.5 million in restitution to the investor and $3.9 million in restitution to Firstar Bank and BancFirst.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – U.S. Attorney Dena J. King announced today that Pembroke, North Carolina based behavioral healthcare provider, Healthkeeperz, Inc. (Healthkeeperz), has agreed to resolve allegations that the company violated the False Claims Act by billing claims to Medicaid programs that were not reimbursable under the applicable North Carolina Medical Clinical Coverage Policy. Healthkeeperz has agreed to pay $2.1 million to resolve the allegations.

HARRISBURG—The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Jimmy Tran, age 41, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was sentenced today to 24 months’ imprisonment by United States District Court Judge Sylvia H. Rambo for the unauthorized use, acquisition, and possession of benefits of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Ocala, Florida –United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announces that Aleia Deborah Green (20, Brooksville) today pleaded guilty to possession of stolen mail. Green faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set. Green had been indicted on February 15, 2022.

MISSOULA – A former U.S. Postal Service employee who admitted to stealing gift cards from the mail was sentenced today to two years of probation and ordered to pay $440 restitution, U.S. Attorney Leif M. Johnson said. Lassana Diaby, 54, pleaded guilty in January to an indictment charging him with theft of mail by officer or employee, a felony. U.S. District Judge Dana L. Christensen presided. Judge Christensen followed recommendations in a plea agreement and imposed a probationary sentence.
